Efforts, Encourages Future Participation to Help End Opioid Epidemic
BATON ROUGE, LA – Last Saturday, Attorney General Jeff Landry’s Office joined local, state, and federal partners in national Drug Take Back Day events throughout Louisiana. At the Baton Rouge event, these public and private partners were able to assist more than 250 members of the local community in disposing of more than 1,000 pounds of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications. The Baton Rouge Drug Take Back event was one of thousands that took place in communities across the nation, all aimed at helping keep drugs out of the wrong hands and stop the spread of addiction.
General Landry praised the Baton Rouge event’s success, “I commend the efforts of all who participated in the Drug Take Back event this weekend, as well as those citizens who took advantage of this opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets.”
“Too many in Louisiana have lost family members and friends at the hands of the opioid epidemic; and I hope this attempt to get rid of unused prescriptions can and will save lives,” continued General Landry. “As your Attorney General, I promise to continue doing all that I legally can to help our families by working to end this epidemic.”
“In addition to taking part in events like the Baton Rouge Drug Take Back Day, my office has partnered with local law enforcement to place drug take back boxes in nearly every parish of Louisiana,” concluded General Landry. “I urge all who were unable to attend the successful event on Saturday to utilize these boxes and get unnecessary drugs away from those who may misuse them.”
