Praise Ruling
NEW ORLEANS, LA - The United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals today affirmed the murder conviction of child predator Ricky Langley.
“I am proud of my staff for working with District Attorney DeRosier’s Office to ensure this monster never has the opportunity to prey on another child,” said General Landry. “I am grateful that the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed this murderous pedophile should remain behind bars. My office will continue to do all we can to protect our State’s children and ensure public safety in Louisiana.”
“We certainly concur with the opinion of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals,” said DA DeRosier. “This case should have been a death penalty case. But for the actions of the trial court judge, it would have been a death penalty case. This defendant committed the most heinous, the most unspeakable act against this 6 year old defenseless boy and he deserves the full weight of the criminal justice system. I want to thank the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, as well as the Texas Attorney General’s Office, for their assistance with the very basic and important issue of criminal justice involved in this litigation.”
While out on parole for a previous child molestation conviction, Ricky Langley molested and strangled to death six-year old Jeremy Guillory in 1992. After he was initially convicted for first degree murder, the sentence was subsequently vacated for reasons not concerning his guilt. Following a second trial and conviction of second degree murder, the sentence was also vacated due to improper conduct by the judge. At the third trial, Langley elected a bench trial and was again convicted of second degree murder.
