Consumers and Businesses

The Louisiana Attorney General's Office focuses intently on consumer and trade protection and ways to help keep Louisiana’s consumers and businesses better informed about the latest deceptive business practices and scams.
The best prevention of unfair trade practices and scams targeting consumers and businesses is education. The Consumer Protection Section offers consumer education programs designed to educate Louisiana citizens and businesses through presentations, special events, publications, consumer alerts, and the Attorney General's website.

Here is some quick advice on how to avoid being victimized by scams:

  • Be wary of anything that sounds "too good to be true."
  • Avoid high pressure sales tactics.
  • Ask questions.
  • Investigate offers made to you as a contest "winner."
  • Check out price claims yourself.
  • Ignore "once in a lifetime" offers.
A representative from the Consumer Protection Section will come speak to your organization on a variety of consumer issues.  We can tailor presentations to meet your needs. We also offer information booths for community fairs, health fairs, trade shows, conferences, and related events.

If you are interested in requesting a speaker or having an information booth at your event, please complete our Speaker Request Form found under More Resources on this page.
