Federal Gun Prosecutions Increase in New Orleans, Attorney General Jeff Landry Offers Praise and Assistance

NEW ORLEANS, LA - Under the leadership of United States Attorney Duane Evans, the Eastern District of Louisiana has seen the highest number of federal gun cases adopted in more than a decade. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry offered Evans praise and assistance in fighting back against the surge of gun crimes in New Orleans.

In a letter, Attorney General Landry commended Evans for taking 85% more gun cases from the local Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office than in years past and offered help from his Department in these efforts.

Attorney General Landry also noted his office's successful collaboration with the United States Attorney of the Western District that increased arrests and prosecution of violent crime in Northeast Louisiana.

"While we recognize that this is only a temporary solution to a very serious crime problem, we must all work together to protect our citizens from violent crime," wrote Attorney General Landry. "I commend you for your service to the citizens of Orleans Parish and the surrounding jurisdictions who have been affected by this surge in crime."
